This guide shows you how to update settings for a befriending match or mark it as inactive when the pairing needs to end.

## Prerequisites

- You must have a befriending match already set up
- You need appropriate permissions to manage matches in your account

## Steps

### Step 1: Navigate to the befriending matches list

From your main navigation menu, select Befriending Matches to view all current pairings. You'll see a table showing caller names, recipient names, match options (video or phone, recording status), and whether each match is active or inactive. Each row has an edit button (pencil icon) and a View calls button.

### Step 2: Open the edit dialog for your match

Find the match you want to edit in the list and click the pencil icon button on the right side of that row. This opens the edit match dialog where you can view and modify the match settings. Note that you cannot change the caller or recipient once a match is created - these fields are shown but disabled.

### Step 3: Update recording preferences if needed

In the edit dialog, you'll see a toggle switch labeled 'Record the calls' (this option only appears if your account has call recording enabled). Toggle this switch on or off depending on whether you want future calls to be recorded. For telephone matches, you'll also see your dedicated befriending phone number that the caller uses to connect with the recipient. For video matches, you can update the schedule for upcoming video sessions including the start date, time, frequency, and duration.

### Step 4: Save your changes or deactivate the match

If you want to save your updated settings, click the Save button at the bottom right of the dialog. If you need to end the befriending pairing permanently, click the Unmatch button at the bottom left instead. A confirmation dialog will appear asking 'Are you sure you wish to unmatch?' because this action will prevent the caller from contacting the recipient through the befriending system. Click 'Yes, unmatch' to confirm, or 'No' to return to editing.

## Tips

- Inactive matches still appear in your list but show an 'Inactive' badge - use the filter dropdown to hide them if needed
- Recording preferences only affect future calls - existing recordings are not deleted when you turn off the recording toggle
- For video matches, updating the schedule will apply to all future occurrences if it's a recurring series
